I know I am guilty of being discontent. So many times, I see another person and I think, "I wish I could look like them." I wish I could be prettier, smarter, thinner, more athletic...whatever. You get the point. I know I'm not the only one who does this either. I see it all the time. We all want to be different, we all want to be our own unique person. Somewhere in the mix of all these, we really just start comparing ourselves to other people.
This isn't a post all about "loving yourself," it's a post about comparison.
I heard a quote once that goes, "comparison is the thief of joy." And that's SO true.
The more we compare ourselves to those around us, the more joy we suck out of our lives. And the real question is, why do we care SO much? I know I do, that I see someone and I think, "I want to be like that. I want to have that. I wish I were like them."
Moving forward, I'm going to make an effort to NOT compare myself to those people I see walking down the hallway. I challenge you to do the same. Because being content with the person you are and the person you were created to be can open SO many doors for a happier and more joy filled life.
There's never a good reason to degrade the person you are. You were created to be YOU. By putting yourself down, you're telling God that His creation isn't good enough. That he didn't do a good enough job. And that's a lie that many put into their lives for many reasons, the main one being attention.
If the only reason you're getting attention is because of your looks, then something's wrong. Complaining about the way you look, especially for the purpose of attention, is pointless.
Being content with the person you are, not comparing yourself to the other people in your world, will allow you to live a happier life. I constantly find myself rethinking that quote, "comparison is the thief of joy."
Just a thought.
