Recently in my comp class we had a discussion on feminism and we had to read an article called, "The Other F-word." To my surprise, many kids in my class said they were NOT feminists. I am among them.
Now, I am all for equality. I am for equality for everyone, not only women.
I am not a feminist because I think the term is unnecessary. They're against domestic abuse, casual rape, and they're FOR equality. I am against domestic abuse, casual rape and I am FOR equality. But I'm not only against or for these things for women. I'm against child abuse, and child rape. I am for equality of minorities and other races.
Why would I only sit here and say I stand for women?
Is society today completely equal? No.
Will it ever be? No.
Women and men were made to play different roles. Women can hold a baby for a reason just the same reason that men have broader shoulders and are able to get muscle mass quicker than females. Am I saying that men and women can't perform the same roles? No. I'm saying that just because we have different roles doesn't make one role any more important or superior than the other. God created men and women different for a reason and trying to deny that fact will get people no where.
There's nothing I hate more than when people complain that women have to give up their dreams. In the article we read it said that women had to put their dreams in a casserole dish. That's ridiculous, I'll say it now. Ya know what? I'm pretty sure it wasn't my father's dream to be a head of maintenance. I'm pretty sure it wasn't my grandpas dream to be a janitor, or my other grandpa to be a manager at a jewelry store. But they gave up their dreams for their families. MEN HAVE TO GIVE UP THEIR DREAMS TOO. Men and women give up their dreams usually for their families, the people they love. To most, it's worth it to give up their dreams to be a loving parent to their child.
So to sum this all up, no, I am not a feminist. I think feminism is a good excuse for women to complain about all they dislike about the world around them. I am a person who is against inequality, domestic violence, rape, ect. but I am against those things for every MAN, women, AND CHILD. I don't think women deserve any "special" treatment. We were all created equal in God's eyes and it's time we started acting like it.
