Okay, if you're anything like I used to be, you dread the morning alarm. You have 5 alarms set, one for 6:30, then 6:35, then 6:40, and so on and so forth. I sometimes used to set my alarm for 20 minutes earlier than I needed to get up so I'd get the illusion of sleeping in. I've noticed the last few months how much my outlook on the morning has changed. I believe that God wants us to be people who love morning. Of course, I understand that for some of us, this is quite a struggle and may be something you never can fully achieve. But I think we are given lots of scriptures about the beauty of the morning, and here are a handful of them.
Psalm 148:8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Psalm 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Lamentations 3:22-23 It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
So as you can see, we are given promises, joy, and lovingkindness in the morning. Jesus arose early to pray and have that intimate one on one time with God. Many prefer night devos simply because they're not morning people. I used to be like this, but I have found that having my quiet time one on one with the Lord when I wake up allows me to better prepare for all the day has planned. It helps me remember my duty as a Christian - to be a representative. It reminds me why I'm on the earth and challenges me to be a good testimony. I believe that I should spend as much time in the word of God and having a personal, reserved time with Jesus as I do getting myself ready for the day. Just as we get up and prepare our faces, hair and clothing for the day, we should prepare our hearts. What better way to have a groomed heart than to give it over to Jesus each morning? Allowing God to work through you right when you get out of bed will improve your mood and empower you to boldly live out the Christian walk. Meditating on the things of the Lord all day becomes much easier when you begin that day with the Bible and quiet, prayer time with Christ.
I have been blessed by doing devotions both morning and night. Winding down the day and spending it with my best friend is always an encouragement. But I challenge you, as Jesus arose early to have prayer time with His Master, so should we. Life is waking up an hour earlier to live an hour longer. Each moment of our lives belong to Christ - make sure you utilize every minute you have. There are sunrises every single day, don't miss many of them.
