So I've been in 6 different productions, student directed 2, and worked stage crew for 1. I have loved performing since I was in 8th grade, which is when I performed in my first musical. The musical was called Teen. It was actually held in the middle school gym because the auditorium was under construction. It was a really cheesy musical and kinda dumb to be honest, but it gave me a long lasting love for performing.
The next production I was in was South Pacific. I didn't have a big part but I loved being in it. As a freshman, it was a new experience for me. There were many upperclassmen who were phenomenal actors and gave me a desire to follow in their footsteps and continue to audition for the productions.
The next play I was in was You Can't Take It With You. I played Mrs. Kirby. I loved this play and I have really great memories. It was goofy but had a great message behind it. It'll always be one of my favourite productions!
I then was in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers as Liza, one of the brides. This was SO fun! I got to perform with my cousins and my sister. The whole cast was like a family. We actually got to perform a segment on a Broadway stage for the musical! It had dancing which isn't my forte, but it was super fun to learn.
Next, I had a small part in the Mousetrap by Agatha Christie. We performed this in a historical house. It was one of the most amazing experiences. We had a great cast with great directors and I had a blast, even as a tiny role.
I played Hermia in Shakespeare's a Midsummer Night's Dream. It was incredible. I loved memorizing the lines and getting to know people I didn't know well before. We had a student teacher who directed this and I fell in love with her, which made each practice even more fun. I'm so glad I had the chance to experience Shakespeare in my high school career.
I was a student director for the play The Importance of Being Earnest. I also played the role of Gwendolyn for one pf the six performances. It was so exciting learning how to student direct and see the side of a production new to me. It was in the historical house again, same place we had the Mousetrap. It was the last production in high school and many tears were shed, but it was an amazing expierence with an amazing cast.
Finally, I have the lovely opportunity of student directing the 8th grade musical, School House Rock. I am learning so much about the ins and outs of the stage, as well as working with lights, curtains and sound effects. Handling children in an auditorium was such an interesting experience, and affirmed even more that being in the theatre, whether on stage or off, is such an important part of my life.
Thank you for taking the time to read my theatre past! :) It's a huge part of my life and one of the most amazing joys I've ever experienced, and I hope to continue it for as long as I live.
